Democracy vs Dictatorship Debate #G6

Could a dictatorship work better than a democracy?

A dictatorship is better

Arguement 1:Many people argue that a democracy could work better than a dictatorship, but I believe in theory a dictatorship could work better. Educated people in benevolent dictatorships have the option to put input for their government although in democracies, the entire population, who might not be aware, can have significant input. Many people these days are very ignorant and uneducated and are not aware of the state of their government. For example, 29% of Americans couldn’t name the current vice president. This shows that many people dont know what they are voting for, and are blindly contributing to political situations that could greatly affect the country’s future. Although some dictators can be negative, they were often chosen and supported by the people, such as Hitler. People believe that Hitler was supported because Germany was going through a rough patch and just wanted someone to blame, and someone who would support that. This is not true because the US is in a fine time, and masses of people back Donald trump whose preachings are absurd and insanely racist.

Although not everybody votes, it is much better to have the choice and the right of voting than not having a say at all. Dictators are not chosen by the people and once a dictator is in power, nobody can change that. However if the people in a democracy end up not liking the way the person they voted for is running their country, they can always vote for a new person in the next elections, they would never be stuck, they will always be able to have a say. Although there are some benevolent dictatorships where the people might not be completely ignored, people do not usually get a say in how things work in a dictatorship since only one person has the power to make every decision in the country.

Although in a democracy people have a say, the say they have is often not valuable and can harm the country as not every person is educated enough to be responsible to impact their country's future. With a dictatorship, decisions and elections can be made by the people in power that might not be popular with the people but will have good affect on their country. In conclusion, with a dictatorship more educated decisions can be made as the decision makers have more experience in the wellbeing of the country.

Argument 2:

In a democracy, there are opposing political parties and people in power, whereas in a democracy there are very few. Having few people in power will result in a more efficient and fast acting government as it does not have to pass through many fighting branches, parties and people. For example, for a law to be passed in America’s democratic government, laws have to pass through 100s of people, including the entire House of Representatives, and the Senate, as well as through the president. In a dictatorship, the laws just have to be approved by a few people. This leads to faster decision making, and matters being dealt with at the necessary speed of effectiveness, rather than taking too long.

Since only one person has all the power in a dictatorship, the right to pass a law easily can be abused, they could create harsh and cruel laws. There are no different branches in the government, different branches of the government that can balance out the others and monitor them. In a dictatorship this doesn’t exist. So no matter what is being done, there is no one to intervene and try to stop it. The process of a law being passed in a democracy ensures that it is a law that everybody would benefit from, this is why it goes through a long process, to make sure that the citizens would benefit from it instead of the law just favoring the person in power.

In a democratic country, there is no guarantee that there is no corruption and that the laws will always favor the people. For example, in Nigeria, the president Ibrahim Babanginda is corrupt and voided the June 12 elections. In a dictatorship, laws are made faster and as an effect, the laws are still effective at the time they're released and not long overdue. Also a dictator has many advisors who advise him on decisions that will benefit the country and see to that the dictator doesn't make bad decisions.

Closing statement

Overall, a dictatorship is superior as the leaders are more fit to lead and know what is better for and can help the country in the long run. Also, decisions are made faster and therefore more effective for the situation at hand. Lastly, the people will be happier and feel safer in their community as crime rates are much lower, and people need not be concerned about these issues. So the countries under a dictatorship have a brighter future.

Opening Statement

We are speaking on behalf of the benefits of dictatorship and how it is superior to a democracy. In dictatorships, the leaders are more fit to lead, as in democracies people dont always know what they are voting for. Also, there are fewer parties and people that laws have to pass through, which leads to more efficient decision making. Also, a dictatoship is much better for the long run and future of a country.

Many people will say that the people live in fear in a dictatorship but it is exactly the opposite as crime rates are incredibly low and people dont have to worry about personal safety. In cities governed by dictators, the crime rate is very low compared to other areas governed by governements such as a democracy. Singapore. This contribites to the safety and wellbeing of a country, as the murder and crime rates are low and people dont need to be converned with issues such as that. For example, the criminal rate is 0.38% in Singapore, although it is a monumental 5% in America. People will also say corruption is a large problem in democracies, and althought corruption will always find an opportunity, bribery and corruption is a very serious offense that will be followed by punishment in dictator run governments such as Singapore

The reason why crime rates are very low is because the dictator establishes harsh punishments for even the smallest crimes. People should not be harshly punished when they commit a small crime, although it creates a more safe society, it could also create fear and anger amongst the people because of the harsh laws that they are bound to.

In societies such as Singapore, they have one of the lowest crime rates in the world as the people respect the punishments to follow. It will not create fear and outrage as everyone morally expects that for committing a crime such as a murder, they will have serious offenses. People also support that it is better to institute harsh punishments and to not have many crimes than to have many crimes and less harsh punishments for offenders. Also, including minimal punishments can also help for a cleaner society, as in Singapore you are fined for littering which has resulted in Singapore being a very cleanly and healthy city.

Opening Statement: A democracy is better than a dictatorship for many reasons. A democracy is a type of government that puts all the power within the people. Unlike a dictatorship, a democracy allows people to have the freedom that they deserve and allows them to have a voice. A democracy lets people feel significant in their country and let them know that their opinion matters too. Democracies promote equality and freedom, two necessary things that people deserve in life.

Argument #1: People deserve to have freedom. A democracy allows them to feel important and wanted in their country, it gives them a say on how they want their country to be run. In a democracy, the people have the say in who is elected into any form of government office, these government officials will then make decisions for the country based on what the majority of people want. This way, the feelings of the people will not be neglected or ignored, the way the people feel will determine who and how their country is run.

Often, when people have the opportunity to have input on the leadership of their country, they make decisions they are not aware of, that can greatly impact the future of their country. In a democracy in Russia, the people voted for Vladimir Putin and the government has now become an authoritarian state who harms the population.

Although people might not be completely aware of who they are voting for or what the elected president is capable of doing, if the person in power is not doing their job correctly, they would not be re-elected in the next elections. Since they are only in power because of the people who voted for them, they would do everything they can to keep the people happy in order to get their vote again in the next elections. In a dictatorship, the people would be stuck with the person that is in power, whether they are corrupt or not, the citizens have no say in who is in power.

Argument #2: Democracies promote equality, a democracy is based on the rule of equality, which means that all people are equal as far as the law is concerned. Every person has the right to experience and enjoy equal political, social and economic rights, and the state is not allowed to discriminate him on the standard of sex, class, religion and property. It is important that everyone is treated equally, no matter what their religion, class, or sexual orientation is. To be discriminated for who you are is cruel and unfair.

In many democratic countries, gay marriage is still not allowed despite your claims that no one is discriminated against. Also, racism is still highly prominent in many democratic countries including in the governments. For example, in America, African Americans make up 14% of the drug using population although they have 37% of drug arrest. Also, African Americans and Latinos are much more likely to be innocently pulled over by cops than white people, with no cause.

Although not every democratic country supports gay marriage, the people would have the power to have a voice and express their feelings about this subject. In the US, gay marriage was recently legalized. This shows that in a democracy, the people in power can change the laws in favor of the citizens to ensure that they are earning the freedom that they deserve. In a dictatorship, people would never have the chance to express their feelings about the way their country is run because they wouldn't have the freedom of speech. They would have to follow whatever rule that their dictator sets for them, and if they don't, it usually ends up in harsh punishment. If people are scared into following something they don't believe, they will not respect their leader and they will not feel comfortable in their own country.

Argument #2: People living in a democracy would have a place to turn to if they ever have an issue in their country, they can easily access their local official. These officials can then help them with their problems and guide them through the steps they need to take to get it to the next level of government. This right will let people know that they have a voice in their country and if they ever feel that there is a problem that is really bothering them, there can always be a way to solve it. The right to have a voice is important for a person, if there is an issue in a country, it should have the chance to be brought up and fixed to make the people happier and to make the country an overall better place.

In a democracy, the people's problems could be taken to officials but might not even be sent to the president. If it gets to the president, the making of laws would take too long and when the law is put to place, they might be ineffective. In a dictatorship, too the people could send their problems and issues to the government advisors.

Side: A dictatorship is better

In a dictatorship people do not usually get a say in what happens in their country. Also, the dictator can choose who they want to be in their "government", for example, Muammar Gaddafi (now overthrown dictator of Libya) allowed only a small group, mostly members of his family, to participate in the governing of the country.

Closing Statement:

In conclusion, a democracy is much better than a dictatorship in many ways. Although a democracy has flaws, a dictatorship’s flaws are much more present and vivid. Dictatorship’s have no say in the leader, in the laws, and in the government in general. Democracies, on the the other hand, have says in laws as they are passed on to each political party and branch which ensures that it is a law that the citizens would benefit from. Dictatorships have no freedom of speech as they have harsh punishments which scares the citizens into following them. In a democracy, the people are free to who they chose for their ruler and if they don’t like them, then they can vote for the other candidates that are running. Dictators have a pattern in which they end up abusing their power such as Hitler, Kim Jong Un, Gaddafi, and Hussein.
